When Lights Collide Chapter 27

“Honey, you glowed blue light.”  Estelle repeated herself while watching and scanning Daniel’s energy centers.

Daniel stood very still, the only moving part of him was his eyes as he looked back and forth from Estelle to Cara and back again.

“What do you mean, I glowed blue light, what does that even mean?” he asked, stone serious and Estelle could see his fear rising.

“You honestly don’t remember anything after you set us by the tree?” Estelle asked, searching for clarity and praying for calm.

Daniel spoke with frustration, “like I said, I set you both down by the tree, and I prayed that you both would be ok…” he shrugged, “no biggie, I prayed, so what..?!?”

Estelle smiled, “you’re right” and she gave Cara a look and nodded, “praying is no biggie, we do it all the time, every person, everywhere prays, but honey, not everybody glows when they pray.  That is a gift, can you tell us what exactly you did or said when you prayed?”

Daniel took a deep breath and Cara could feel his fear and frustrations rising, which in turn made her feel afraid and frustrated.  “Another blessing.” she muttered to herself, or at least she thought it was to herself until Daniel stared at her and asked “Another blessing, what does that mean?”

Cara jumped, “You heard that?  I was talking to myself.”

She quickly looked to Estelle who suddenly looked like she’d just stepped into the twilight zone of new and out of this world possibilities and then looked back to Daniel and replied

“I can feel the energy of other people, which means when others are happy, I feel happy.  When others feel scared, I feel scared.  When others feel fear and frustration, I feel fear and frustration, and when I was a child, that fear and frustration meant that all hell was about to break loose, that a fight was about to break out and that it was time for me to hide.”

She paused and took a deep breath,

“So when you feel afraid and frustrated, it triggers part of my childhood that scares me and makes me want to hide until it's safe to come out.” Cara nodded matter of factly, trying to assure herself that she had done the right thing by sharing as honestly as possible. She continued with the celery and carrots, hoping the moment would pass without too much conversation,  instead, Daniel reached out and placed his hand over Cara’s, he waited until she looked up at him before he said “I’m sorry.  I am sorry that those things happened in your childhood, and I am sorry that my feelings scare you, I hope you know that I would never hurt you.  I can’t really explain why, but I feel like you are someone that I am supposed to protect and take care of.  I take that seriously Cara, I won’t hurt you, I promise.”

Something in his final words made Cara flinch in response, she tried to pull her hand away from Daniel’s, but he held tight and refused to let her go until she looked at him again, then he said, “And whatever that was just now, please know, I am not the person that hurt you in your past.” As he released Cara’s hand, he shook his head and tried to giggle as he said,

“And now look, you’ve all got me acting all mysterious and shit.” he chuckled to himself as he picked up another potato and began peeling.

The silence in the room was almost deafening as the trio worked together to make the soup, finally, Estelle broke the silence,

“Ok you two, enough of the stiff silence, we have a few things to talk about.” she said as she looked from Cara to Daniel and back again,

“We need to know how Daniel turned blue while he prayed,” she looked to Daniel, “can you walk us through what you said, did, maybe even felt, while you were praying?” she asked Daniel pointedly.

Daniel looked at Estelle for a hard moment, then replied

“Yea, I can do that, but now I’m confused, did I turn blue, like from lack of oxygen, or did I glow blue, like a lightstick?”

His question was in earnest, but Estelle couldn’t help from giggling, which started Cara into nervous laughter, and poor Daniel standing by the wayside wondering just what was so funny, which had both women laughing even harder, and as Daniel stopped to consider what he had asked, he couldn’t help himself and began shaking his head as laughter rolled from him.

“Well, now there’s a question that I don’t ask everyday.” he shared jokingly as their laughter simmered down.

Estelle nodded “It's also not one that I get asked everyday.” she replied as she worked to gain some semblance of seriousness.

“Ok, my friend, here is the clarity you are asking for, you glowed blue, like a lightstick, except the glowing blue surrounded all of you, like a giant light ball…” her words faded off as though she was trying to remember more to add.

Cara nodded in agreement and added “Yes, and then the blue light extended from you to us and the tree.”

Still busy with the carrots, Cara didn’t notice that both of her friends had stopped what they were doing to stare at her.  When she finally caught the still silence, she looked up to find them both staring at her,

“What?” she asked, not certain why they were staring.

“Exactly, what.” Estelle was the first to speak, “What do you mean the blue light extended to us and the tree, why didn’t you mention it earlier?” she popped her hand onto her hip and leaned against the stove as she waited for Cara to answer.

“Well,” Cara paused for a moment, remembering all that she saw earlier, “I just remembered that part, I only saw it for a second before I passed out again, but I remember seeing the blue light around Daniel, and then everything around us turned blue and then I was out again.”  She shrugged with her response as though it was no big deal and then paused to ask,

“Wait!  Does that mean Daniel is a healer?” her head popped up and her eyes fastened on Daniel, who looked about as confused as a squirrel trying to decide which side of the road was best.

Setting down her knife, Cara wiped her hands on the dish towel that swerved as her apron as she moved to stand closer to Daniel.  Taking his hands in her own, she sent him soothing energy of peace and calm before she looked him in his eyes and said,

“And I thank you for that Daniel, you saved us.  When you heard the guidance to catch us and when you acted to save us from falling, you were protecting us, and when you knelt to pray, God and All Divine heard your prayers and honored your actions.  The blue healing light is a gift from God and All Divine and in the moments that you received it, you shared it.  Your gift healed us, and I thank you.” She reached her arms around Daniel and hugged him tight in gratitude, but all Daniel could do was stand stock still and try to understand all the words that these two women had shared with him.  With confusion written all over his face, he looked to Estelle and asked,

“What exactly are you two trying to tell me? How am I - of all people - a healer?  I’m, ..I’m no saint…  I’m not….”

But his words faded as Cara stepped back to look up at him,

“Daniel, it's ok, what it means - …” but she stopped talking when she saw the new look on his face, the look that she had seen so many times in the past, the look that brought so much pain and hurt into her childhood, and she began to step away from him.

Daniel felt the cool air touch his skin where Cara had been holding him, he looked down to where she had been and looked now to where she stood and saw her trying to move away from him.

The look upon her face near broke his heart, he saw all the pain, all the beatings, all the hurts that she had suffered as a child.

Now as he stood seeing the flashes of her childhood images passing in his mind, his skin could feel the bruises and the strike of each beating she had ever suffered, and he fell to his knees under the burden of it all,

“Cara..” he tried to talk, but could only manage a whisper, he looked up at her face and with a single tear running down his cheek, he tried again to speak to her “I am so sorry.”

Cara, now frozen in place, could only stare at him.  She tried reaching out to her own Guardians, begging for answers,

“How can he know what I am thinking and feeling, these are my personal thoughts, my personal memories, how can he know?”

Yet, no answer came as she watched Daniel, still on his knees, with tears running down his face, apologizing to her as though he knew exactly what she had gone through as a child.

“What do I do, how do I help him?” again she urged her Guardians, and this time only one answer was heard,

“Go to him.”

As Cara took her first step toward Daniel, his arms opened and by her second step, she was wrapped tightly in his arms,

Again.
