When Lights Collide Chapter 2

Cruising down the residential street, Daniel noted the amount of cars parked curbside and grinned to himself.

“Parked cars always give good cover.” Daniel noted to himself.

He continued to roll quietly down the street, well, as quietly as one man could while riding a Harley.  Daniel cut the lights and the engine, allowing the bike to coast to his preferred parking spot, in the shadows between an abandoned house and a tall hedge.

Daniel threw the kickstand and dismounted his ride, and staying in the shadows he made his way along the side streets until he reached the little grey stucco house.

He walked into the yard, smiled again as he noted the driveway empty, and continued towards the back of the house like he owned it, like he knew where he was going,

Because he did.

This wasn’t Daniel’s first time casing this little grey house, he had been here a few times, mostly at night, learning when the best time would be to get inside to check things out.

To check her out.

Cara earned herself an unofficial visit from the MC when the ol’ ladies of the club showed up for a reading with her.  Cara may have slid under the radar if she hadn’t been ‘so awesome’ that Pepper continued to rant on and on about Cara, until her words caught the attention of her husband, her ol’ man, the club Pres, Brutus.

No words were spoken as Brutus casually looked to Daniel and nodded, Daniel knew what needed to be done.

So, here he was, standing quietly in the dark behind her house, making sure all stayed quiet and that no one was going to notice what he was about to do.

When Daniel felt certain that all was clear, he climbed onto the AC unit and poked a finger at the bottom corner of the window screen,  which tipped right off the window ledge and into his waiting hands.

As he set the screen down on the ground, Daniel took another look around the neighboring back yards and then returned to the task at hand.

He reached out and slid the partially open window as far open as it would go, grabbed the ledge with both hands and after a final look around, hoisted himself through the open window and into the house.

He remained as he landed, crouched down on the floor, listening for any noise, any indication that someone may have heard or seen him enter the house.

There was only the sound of the crickets singing outside the window.

Slowly, Daniel stood and allowed his eyes to adjust to the darkness in the room, which didn't take long and wasn’t really necessary, he’d always had an awesome sense of what he called ‘dark sight’.

His grandmother declared it was a gift from God, and that it ought to be revered as such.  Daniel wasn't sure where it came from, but he was grateful for his ‘gift’ for it had certainly helped him out of a few tricky situations in his lifetime.

As he made his way toward the door, Daniel was suddenly aware that he was not alone in the house, which momentarily confused him, he did not see her car in the yard when he drove by, nor when he walked into the driveway.  Yet he felt a presence, a strong energy, in the house.

Daniel stuck his head out of the office door and looked around into the hallway, his eyes stopped at the closed door on his left.  As he looked around, he noticed that it was the only door closed in the hallway, all the others stood open and no lights were on.

Here though the door was closed, there was light emanating from under the door, but it wasn't bright like a light bulb, it was more like…. Candle light.

Daniel rolled his eyes, “Really?” he said to himself, “She's home AND has to be in the tub - with candles?”, “Just shoot me!”

He shook his head and considered his next move.  He debated leaving and returning on a different night, but then decided that since he was already in the house, he’d go ahead and check it out.

Maybe he’d get lucky and not have to deal with Cara at all…

“At least not right now” he said to himself.

Daniel turned back into the room that he had landed in when he first entered through the window, which appeared to be her home office.

Daniel went to the desk.  As he sat down in the office chair, his  hand bumped the mouse and the computer screen lit up, quickly he reached out and shut off the monitor.  He didn't need the extra light, and he did not want to alert anyone to his presence.

As he flipped through the papers, he noted nothing of interest, bills, invoices, junk mail, nothing to get excited about.  Then he saw her calendar sitting open on the right side of the desk, he pulled out his cell phone and took a few photos of this month, last month and next month, all appointments he presumed, but he would look into those later, right now, he had a house to check out.

Suddenly grateful that Cara was indeed in the bathtub, Daniel removed his boots in the office where the floor was carpeted before he ventured out into the rest of the house where he noted the floors were all hardwood, “this is too easy” he snickered to himself.

“Well, that was useless..” Daniel muttered to himself a whole 5 minutes later.  He knew it was a small bungalow, but there was nothing really of interest or concern to the MC.  A few family photos, 2 bedrooms, the smaller of which looked like it belonged to a teenager, a living room, a kitchen and the only other room he hadn’t yet checked out, the bathroom.

Daniel stood staring at the bathroom door, trying to decide what to do next.  His gentleman side, the side of him his Grandmother raised, was already scolding him for being in the house and standing outside the door, never mind that he was considering entering the bathroom.

Daniel’s Other side, the side trained by his club brothers, was shouting, cheering and whistling, encouraging him to enter..

He bowed his head… ‘sorry Grams’ he said as he opened his eyes and saw his sock feet…

“Nope, if we’re going in, I’m wearing my boots.” Other side smiled in agreement.

As Daniel pulled his boots back on, a war raged in his mind, “You can’t go in there young man!” Grams was not impressed.  Meanwhile Other side was smiling his seal of approval “Oh yes, you can go in there, and you're gonna!”

Boots now firmly in place, Daniel stood, said a final “Sorry Grams”, and turned, exited the office and stepped toward the bathroom door then stopped.

He had almost decided to turn around and leave when he realized that he had already opened the door… “Can’t back down now” Other side smiled slyly.

Daniel rolled his eyes again and stepped into the bathroom.  He took a quick look around and almost didn't see her…  she was barely visible amid all the bubbles.

A split second of panic struck him, “Is she ok..?” just as she slid under the bubbles and disappeared.

He found himself leaning against the door jamb, oddly curious about how long she would stay under the bubbles.

It's funny how in times of being in the wrong place at the right time, you can completely lose focus on what you are doing and why you are doing it.

When she suddenly sat up, Daniel felt a case of the giggles rising in his chest, she had a stack of bubbles on her head that kind of looked like a crown, “hhmm, she's cute” Other side whispered in his mind.

Daniel was suddenly very aware that he was standing in her bathroom, uninvited and that she was naked, in a tub, covered in bubbles… and cute.

“Damn!” he thought to himself and was just about to say something to her when she slid back under the bubbles.

Get out now young man!” Grams shouted at him, and Daniel jumped, surprised by the tone of her voice in his head.

“Yes ma’am” left his lips as he stepped silently out of the bathroom and quietly closed the door.
