When Lights Collide Chapter 21
Cara was uncertain how long she had been dreaming happily when she began to feel pulled away from her happy slumber.
She just knew she wasn’t ready to leave the dreamscape that played behind her eyelids.
She could hear yelling and sense movements around her that did not align with the peaceful beachside landscape of her dreams.
In her dream, Cara began to feel a sense of panic, as feelings of sadness and dread began to pull her away from her slumber.
Cara could feel movement in the world around her, as though an earthquake were trying to rock her away to another place and another time.
As she quickly popped out of her dream and back into reality, Cara could hear Estelle whispering to her, “easy gurl, it’s ok, it's time to wake up, Cara, can you hear me?” Estelle asked as she rocked Cara’s body gently to wake her.
“Yes, yes! I can hear you, I’m awake, I’m awake.” Cara muttered, not so thrilled to be waking up without having finished her dreams on her own terms.
“If you expect me to believe that you're awake, you're gonna need to open your eyes.” Estelle teased as Cara opened her eyes, but only to glare at Estelle. “What is it you need me aw–...”
Cara was suddenly interrupted as Daniel’s voice cut through the air and his arms moved wildly, as though he was trying to grab onto something.
“And how long has that been going on?” Cara asked with raised eyebrows, “has his head begun to spin around, or is he ok?”
Estelle giggled as she waved off Cara’s attempt at humour. “I’m surprised he didn’t wake you before I did, he’s been at this for a while now.” Estelle whispered.
Cara eyeballed Estelle, “why are we whispering?” she mind-spoke whispered to Estelle, “you do know he’s asleep and can’t hear us, right..?”
Estelle gave Cara a look that could have withered flowers, but Cara smiled, showing all her teeth, her way of being cute, and Estelle giggled.
“Gurl, you get me everytime with that look.” Estelle mind-spoke replied.
Cara scooted over and Estelle sat down next to her. The women were debating waking Daniel or letting him wake up on his own, when Cara jokingly snapped at Estelle,
“so, wait, you need me to help you decide if we should wake him - but you had no troubles in deciding that it was ok to wake me…?”
Cara tipped her head to the side, hoping the new perspective would give her a better idea as to what was going on with her best friend, but her best friend only waved her off and giggled again.
As the women sat and chatted, Daniel suddenly yelled for his Grams - which grabbed the attention of both women - while he simultaneously seated himself upright on the edge of the couch, fists clenched around the cushions that were wedged under him.
Cara clenched her lips together, trying desperately not to laugh, as Daniel opened his eyes and stared in the direction of Cara and Estelle, but Cara knew that he did not see them right away.
Cara watched Daniel closely as the ends of his dreams played in her mind's eye, she could see him trying with all his will to hold onto his Grams, she could feel the pain in his chest that ripped through him as his Grams slipped away. Tears rolled down Cara’s cheeks as she heard the last words that his Grams spoke to him as she herself returned to the ethers of the Heaven Realms.
Cara’s hand flew to her own chest of its own volition as the heartfelt words “Oh, I am so sorry” floated from her lips and across the room to Daniel, who finally began to notice that he was indeed in Estelle’s living room, seated across from two wide eyed women now staring at him like he had some sort of malfunction written all over his face.
He snapped to look at Cara, “Sorry, sorry for what? For waking me up, don’t worry about it, it's time I get going anyways. Thanks for letting me hang out.” he muttered as he made his way to put his boots back on his feet and stood, and began to head for the front door.
Estelle and Cara just stared after him as he walked out of the living room and toward the front entry, finally Cara found her voice, “you're kidding me, right? You’re just gonna up and walk out like nothing happened?”
Daniel, with his hand so close to the door that he could almost feel it under the skin of his hand, stopped stiff in his tracks and dropped his chin to his chest, in a motion of defeat he replied,
“Look lady, this has been a slice, really, but I got places to be.” as he again reached for the door.
Cara jumped up off the sofa so fast that Estelle thought she was falling, as Cara stood, she jammed her hands onto her hips and outright lost her mind all over Daniel.
Estelle tried to reach out and pull Cara back down, but her Guardians spoke sharply to her “let her have this moment, she needs to speak and be heard, he needs to hear, allow them space to share…” was all they said as Estelle nodded and slid back on the sofa, “Okie then,” she replied to her Guardians, “Imma just enjoy the show.”
Estelle tuned back in just in time to hear Cara let loose on Daniel, not that she could have missed it, Cara was expressing herself with so much force, she was standing on her tippy toes.
“Listen buddy, I have no idea what is going through your head right now, I’d say through your brain, but the way you’re acting right now is telling me that you may not have one in that boulder head of yours - what on this great green Earth –makes you think you can just have all those events, emotions, and helping us out after spying on me moments and then can just walk out like none of it happened? What kind of an idiot are you that you can just turn and walk away after 2 women nearly extinguished their own life force for the benefit of you and the Heaven Realms and you can just act like it's nothing, what kind of a boy child did your Grams raise anyways..?” Cara finally stopped to take a breath.
Daniel, his head previously hung in sorrow and grief, snapped around to face Cara, she could see the tears on his cheeks, but what terrified her most was the look in his eyes.
“Hold tight,” her Guardians whispered, “he needs to get this out, stand with him.”
Cara nodded her head ever so slightly as she held her form, hands on her hips, feet shoulder width apart, chin lifted in defiance, as she prayed that he didn’t see her shaking in her stockings.
Daniel stomped across the room until he stood nose to nose with Cara, she could feel his breath on her skin, she could also feel the aching pain of sadness in his heart, she could feel the tears being held back in his eyes as her eyes stung in response.
She did not move, Cara held her ground just as her Guardians had asked, and Cara could feel the wave of hurt that he was about to unleash and as it began to roll throughout her energy system, Daniel opened his lips and began to respond to her rant.
Through gritted teeth, Daniel let her have it all as he held nothing back.
All of the feelings and energy of his pain, all of the doubts and fears and loneliness and grief that he had experienced in all his years alone on Earth without his Grams, rolled through Cara’s energy system like waves from an angry river.
Cara could not hear his words as she stood eye to eye with Daniel. She was deaf to his words as his energy field merged with hers and she felt each and every wave of emotion that he was expressing.
Cara could still feel his breath, hot on her skin, now mixed with a little spittle as he was unleashing a torrent of hoarded emotions over her, his great release of all that burdened him.
Daniel could not see the effect that he was having on Cara’s physical presence, he was standing entirely too close to notice that each wave of his expressed emotion was rocking her body, ever so slightly.
He could not see that as he was giving energy and expression to his feelings, that Cara was absorbing each and everyone into her own being.
But Estelle could see it.
Estelle could hear it.
Estelle could feel it.
As she quick tuned in to her Guardians, “Guys, what do I do, how can I help, Cara’s been through too much, I don’t know if this is a good idea.” but all that Estelle could hear now was Daniel cursing as he reached out and wrapped his arms around Cara, now limp and dangling against Daniel.
Cara had collapsed against the weight of Daniel’s energetic emotional release, she had caught it all.
She had allowed it, Cara heard her guides trying to tell her to step back, but the exchange between her and Daniel had been too strong, she couldn’t let go.
Cara was also not afraid to admit that she hadn’t wanted to. Once she caught up to the understanding of what was happening, Cara had been willing to sacrifice herself for his healing.
